Most Listened to New Albums of 2012

Last year I put together a list of my most listened to new albums of the year. Running down my last.fm, I looked at my most listened to full albums of the year, and then cherry picked out only the ones released in 2012. Here we go. 1) Purity Ring - Shrines

Found this band through NPR's All Songs Considered. These two put out a really strong debut and I'm looking forward to seeing them live in January.

2) Hot Chip - In Our Heads

I never really paid this band much attention until In Our Heads. They've had some great videos, but this is the album that finally made me a fan.

3) The Dead LeavesCities on the Sea

Recommended by a friend who happens to be a huge The National fan, this was a go-to working record. It also helps that they cover one of my favorite songs on the album.

4) Japandroids Celebration Rock

Even though I had a bit of an altercation with the lead singer during their show in Orlando, I'm still a fan. This album kept me rocking through the summer.

5) Silversun Pickups Neck of the Woods

Although I've cooled down on this album as of late, Neck of the Woods was on a constant repeat when it was released.

6) Metric Synthetica

I've been a fan since I first drunken danced to "Dead Disco" years and years ago. Synthetica shows that Metric has not lost their touch on their 5th album.

7) THEESatisfactionAwe Naturale

Another NPR find, THEESatisfaction does a great job of putting a modern sound on my favorite aspects of old soul/funk/jazz sounds.

8) Com TruiseIn Decay

If Com Truise keeps making music that sounds like a new Bladerunner soundtrack, I'll keep listening to it.

9) CalexicoAlgiers

It's good to see that Calexico got their act together and finally put out an album with some halfway decent cover art. Algiers is also their most polished and solid sounding record to date, and if you're a fan of southwestern sounds, give them a spin.

10) StarsThe North

Over the years, Stars has been the soundtrack to more than a few good times. The North isn't their best album, and wouldn't even make my true "BEST OF 2012" list, but the times I've shared with good friends and this band keep bringing me back.

Honorable Mention

Major LazerGet Free

This is really only a single, with Get Free and 2 remixes, but it is my favorite song of the year.
